The residency approval process

Initial approval
  • The Director should seek approval of a training programme by sending a completed “Training Programme Application Form” to the Secretariat.
  • Applications are reviewed by the Training Committee. A visit to the training establishment may be requested.
  • The Training Committee is responsible for taking a decision on the outcome of the review.
  • Applicants are notified by the chair as soon as possible after the Committee's decision.
  • Prior to starting the supervised training period, the trainee sends a completed application to the Secretariat.
  • Applications are reviewed by the Credentials Committee with advice from the Training Committee.
  • The Credentials Committee is responsible for taking a decision on the outcome of the review.
  • Applicants are notified by the chair as soon as possible after the Committee's decision.
Annual review The resident and supervisor send annual updates on the progress of the training to the Secretariat by 30 June each year.
5-year review
  • A new “Training Programme Application Form” is due by 30 June of the review year.
  •  These are reviewed by the Training Committee. A visit to the training establishment may be requested.
  • The report is reviewed by the Training Committee and discussed with the Director of the programme. 
Co-supervisors must undergo the ECLAM re-certificaiton review every 5 years while they are supervising residents.
If changes occur The director must notify the Training Committee of any significant change to the programme (eg: change of director) by sending the annual review forms (see above) to the Secretariat as soon as reasonably possible, normally within 30 days. The trainee must notify the Credentials Committee of any significant change to the programme (eg long term absence) as soon as reasonably possible, normally within 30 days.
Appeals Appeals of any decisions of the Committees will be handled according to the College's appeals process.
