Swiss and Southern Germany Residency in Laboratory Animal Medicine
The Swiss and Southern Germany ECLAM Training Programme was initiated in 2006 by three ECLAM Diplomates in Switzerland. The programme is hosted by the University of Zurich. It has five collaborating institutes:
- University Hospital Zurich, Division of Surgical Research, 8091 Zurich, Switzerland
- ROCHE Hoffmann - La Roche Ltd., 4070 Basel, Switzerland
- AO Research Institute Davos, 7270 Davos Platz, Switzerland
- German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), 69120 Heidelberg, Germany
- Department of Biomedical Research (DBMR), Univ. of Bern, 3008 Bern, Switzerland
To join the programme, a permanent position as a veterinarian at one of the collaborating institutes is required. The training programme takes three years to complete and consists of basic and advanced training sections as well as a didactic programme and the opportunities to perform research to gain publication requirements. Training is supervised by ECLAM Diplomates. The coordination and supervision of the training programme is facilitated by a credit point system. In order to complete the training programme, a resident must earn a total of 80 credit points during the three years of training. Thirty-six of these points have to be obtained through practical work/supervised experience. In the advanced training section the candidate has to obtain a further 20 credit points which focus on specialisation and research work. The remaining 24 credit points have to be earned in the didactic portion of the programme.
Successful participation in the Swiss and Southern Germany ECLAM Training Programme is achieved through both the attainment of the prescribed number of credit points and publication of two research publications.
