Clinical Veterinarian and Training Officer

The Comparative Medicine Unit is looking for a veterinarian to fulfil the role of clinical veterinarian and Trinity’s Training Officer. This is a permanent position within Comparative Medicine Unit in the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics & Science at Trinity College Dublin. Trinity’s post title is Chief Technical Officer 2.

The successful candidate will have a veterinary degree and must be eligible to register with the Veterinary Council Ireland. This is a legal requirement and, therefore, essential. The candidate should also have valuable experience in surgically prepared animal models, genetically altered animals, including rodent genetics, and education/training preferably with rodents, rabbits and farm animals.

The primary function of this position will be to provide:

Support to research carried out in CMU at Trinity;
Support the GAA breeding programmes and the quality control of the animal models;
Education, training and continuing professional development
Deputising the Designated Veterinarian and
Provide technical assistance for the academic staff whose work is animal based and requires employing different techniques but also in the preparation of surgical animal models, the use of imaging technologies, pathology data and other research data obtained from animals.
Support CMU’s Chief Technical Officer 1 (CTO1) and Director.

The work will be carried out under the direction of the Director of CMU as part of the Comparative Medicine Unit.

The post holder will also prepare, organise and implement CMU’s Education and Training Programmes.
