The one-year internship in laboratory animal medicine and comparative pathology is an in-service training program in laboratory animal medicine and veterinary pathology within the central laboratory animal facility of the LUMC. During the internship the candidate shall acquire competences and expertise in the broad field of laboratory animal medicine and pathology. The internship is an obligatory period established by The European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) for candidates who are in possession of a veterinary degree and aim to further pursue a career in veterinary pathology/laboratory animal medicine and intend to register for the certifying examination of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP). Your tasks will consist mainly of participation, with increasing independence, in diagnostic and teaching activities. In addition, you will collaborate in research in one of the focus areas of the LUMC resulting in publication of at least one peer-reviewed manuscript in the area of veterinary pathology/laboratory animal medicine. You will work in close collaboration with other members of the PDC and Animal Welfare Body.
We are looking for a colleaguea who:
• is a graduated veterinarian
• has an EU veterinary license
• has an interest in veterinay pathology and laboratory animal medicine
• has an interest in research, diagnostics and teaching
• can organize efficiently and work independently
• is prepared to learn Dutch
You will work 36 hours per week. Appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension. Your salary is based on your experience and education and is a maximum of € 5,086 gross per month based on a fulltime position (scale 11, CLA UMC per 1-1-2019).
Working at the LUMC
The LUMC is a center for medical innovation that aims to improve patient care through leading international research. So as to also provide our patients with a safe and friendly environment, we need doctors, medical care specialists, support staff and academic researchers. The PDC is the only place within the LUMC where animal testing is allowed. Within this facility, licensed animal caretakers and bio technicians are responsible for the daily care of the animals, all days of the year.
