Position description:

The Animal Research Centre Ulm (TFZ) is a central operational facility of Ulm University and reports directly to the Board. As a scientific service provider it is the central research animal facility of Ulm University. Its focus is on the breeding and keeping of genetically modified mice. In addition, smaller numbers of rats and large animals (sheep and pigs) are kept. The Animal Research Centre employs approx. 50 staff (specialised vets, qualified keepers) to look after the research animals under conventional, SPF and gnotobiotic conditions.
 

Your responsibilities:

  • Personnel, organisational and technical management of the Animal Research Centre with conventional and gnotobiotic husbandry
  • Implementation of projects aimed at future-oriented research animal husbandry
  • Training and further training of academic and non-academic staff in the area of animal experiments
  • Responsibilities of Animal Welfare Officer (advisory during application and experimentation, supervisory regarding compliance with and implementation of animal protection legislation)


Your profile:

  • Completed academic studies with a degree in veterinary medicine or biology
  • Several years of management experience with knowledge of operational procedures in scientific research animal keeping and breeding facilities with genetically modified animals and different research animal species
  • Excellent knowledge of animal protection legislation and application procedures
  • Leadership and social competence, proactive approach, cooperative, organisational and negotiating skills, perseverance,
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent knowledge of English


Remuneration is in line with a leadership position; if requirements under civil service law are fulfilled, appointment as a civil servant is possible.
